There’s a reason why Vancouver is home to some of the most popular sci-fi shows (besides being cheaper to shoot up here in “hollywood north”). It looks pretty damn futuristic. In fact, almost all of the scenes on Caprica (Battlestar Galactica\Caprica) are shot downtown. It probably also has to do with no recognizable landmarks, except maybe Vancouver Public Library. In any case, walking downtown is a quite inspiring, especially with the new Olympic Building up. A little slice of the future.
It’s strange the things my mind will do to avoid sitting down to start my writing day. Of course, I’m very aware that I’m doing this to myself, but I let it happen anyways. Here’s a good list:
1) Read my RSS feed.
This one is a killer. I can sink hours into this. After reading one story, I lust for more. And more. And more so after that. I’m not entirely sure why I’m so addicted to random, useless knowledge–but man, I’ve spent days just reading my RSS feed. It’s always a distraction when I start to write and the writing is tough.
2) Play with my iPhone.
This is a new one, but ever since I got my iPhone, it also proves to be a good distraction. In fact, you can link this with the previous distraction–I read my RSS feeds on my iPhone. Win?
3) Go get Bubble Tea.
It’s 10pm, and I’m starting to write, and bam. I get a craving for bubble tea. I succumb to my cravings and I lose two hours of work right there. Then again, drinking hot milk tea has helped my writing quite a bit. Sadly, I’ve convinced myself that I write better after some of that stuff and that I can’t write without it. Dangerous thinking. At least it’s not as bad as Stephen King thinking he can’t write without COCAINE.
4) Play God Of War II
So, I’m sitting down to start some writing, and I think, “Hey, why not–I can play God of War II” to turn on my mind.
5) Watch LOST
I get a lot of inspiration from LOST. For some reason, I think that if I watch an episode before I start writing, I’ll be more–uh–inspired?
6) Read
A writer must read. A lot. The only problem is, I always convince myself the best time for reading is the time I should be writing.
So here’s the story. After some ridiculous loophole jumping with Rogers, I was able to grab an iPhone with the 6GB plan. Essentially, this post is just to test the wordpress app from the store. I would love to get a photo blogish thing going. There are too many things not to make fun of now that I have a camera everywhere I go.
So here goes, testing123. Further impessions of the iPhone coming soon.
It’s my keyboard, hardy har har. On a more serious note–the photo quality is pretty good.
As you can probably tell, the new design is up and running, thanks to the wonderfully talented web designer Kevin Cannon. While the old site contained a lot of static content, most of this new site will be ever changing; the writing, art, and music sections becoming blogs. To accent this new dynamism, the site will now change depending on the time of day! Morning, Sunset\Sunrise, and Night modes have been implemented and they look amazing (once again, thanks to Kevin). So, be patient with me as I fill this new site with content! Happy browsing!
